Instructional Services - Assessment

Felicia R. Smith, Supervisor-Instructional Services

Testing is one of the responsibilities of the Instructional Services Department, located at the Parker Center. This office oversees testing security and the distribution of tests to all schools. The district has multiple assessments (see dates and events below). The test results are disaggregated and analyzed to guide classroom instruction and to improve students’ skills. These assessments are given to students based on the mandates of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act and the mandates under the direction of the Arkansas Department of Education. If an assessment is not listed that your student will take, please contact your school counselor for more information.

The FSPS Closing the Achievement Gap Task Force focuses on closing the achievement gaps between subgroups at all grade levels in the district. The task force consists of a diversity of parents, teachers, administrators, a board member, and a professor from the University of Arkansas Fort Smith. The task force focuses on promoting higher student achievement through researching best practices in the areas of instructional strategies, higher attendance rates, and positive behavior.

The elementary art, GATE, music and physical education specialty departments are a part of the Instructional Services Department. Because students are interested in technology, technology has been incorporated into each of the departments’ classrooms.
