Three FSPS Educators Receive Economics Recognition

Three FSPS teachers won 2014 Bessie B. Moore Awards for their outstanding incorporation of economic projects into their lesson planning. Tracy Floyd and Kristina Thrift – both first grade teachers at Woods Elementary School – won in the Newcomer Category, and Kathryn Robinson – English teacher at Chaffin Junior High School – won in the Veteran Category. These three FSPS teachers were among 13 Arkansas educators recognized by the organization at a gala luncheon on November 13 at the Great Hall of the Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock.

Economics Arkansas launched the Bessie B. Moore Awards program in 1995 to honor exemplary teachers for successfully integrating economic principles into the classroom. The contest is open to educators K-12 from public and independent schools in Arkansas. To enter, teachers submit written descriptions of their projects, which are reviewed and judged by an independent panel of economic education specialists. Winners are awarded a plaque and a $1,000 cash prize.

School Board meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Service Center Auditorium, located in Building B of the Service Center Complex, 3205 Jenny Lind Road. The meetings are open to the public.
