Each year, the Norma Shaffer Partnership of the Year Award is presented to one outstanding elementary partnership and one outstanding secondary partnership within the Fort Smith Public School District’s Partners in Education Program. Established in 1998, the award is named for Norma Shaffer, the coordinator of Partners in Education from 1986-1998.
This year’s Elementary Partnership Award goes to Weldon, Williams & Lick, Inc. and Howard Elementary School. Weldon, Williams & Lick, Inc. has been an active partner at Howard for 34 years. Just this year alone, WWL associates have spent 454 hours volunteering at Howard in order to nurture, protect, and enrich the learning of Howard students.
The Secondary Partnership Award goes to Trane and Chaffin Junior High School. Trane was Chaffin’s first Partner in Education, and has continued to be actively involved ever since. On a weekly basis, Trane employees donate their time, money, and anything else needed to the students at Chaffin. Twice a month, Trane sends six employees to Chaffin to participate in the Edge and GEMS mentoring programs, making a big impact on students’ lives and serving as a “trusted guide” for at-risk students.
