Southside Students Bring Home Superiors From State Competition

Southside High School’s Thespian Troupe 2620 competed in the Arkansas State Thespian Festival Feb. 10 in Jonesboro. The following students earned superiors for their performances and qualified to compete at the International Thespian Festival this summer in in Lincoln, Neb.
Solo musical: Blake Bulger
Costume design: Hannah Pair
Group musical: Destiny Cancel, Addy Clamser, Emily Cobb, Joey Deschryver, Florian Fleming, Casey Goodson, Kylee Hancock, Corban Kinsey, Deven Long, Ashleigh Mathews, Hannah Pair, Katie Rauch, Francesca Rossi, Caleb Simpson and Abby Underwood.
Troupe 2620 had two students who were asked to showcase their work in technical theatre, an honor awarded to only two students in each category. Hannah Pair was asked to showcase her costume design for "The Tempest," and Maggi Bodiford was asked to showcase her stage management binder for "Carousel."
Students also competed in Tech Challenge, a highly competitive event, and were awarded the following: Kylee Hancock and Mallory Koenigseder, first place prop shift; Joey Deschryver and Florian Fleming, second place prop shift; Joey Deschryver, Emilee Dewett, Deven Long, and Bethany Koprovic, first place drop fold; Caleb Simpson, second place knot tying; Corban Kinsey, third place light focus; Claire Birkhead, Addy Clamser, Emily Cobb and Mallory Koenigseder, third place cable relay; Joey Deschryver, Emilee Dewett, Florian Fleming, Corban Kinsey, Bethany Koprovic, Deven Long and Caleb Simpson, second place overall team; and Claire Birkhead, Addy Clamser, Emily Cobb, Kylee Hancock, Alexis Kennedy, Mallory Koenigseder and Katie Rauch, third place overall team.
The Troupe received Gold Honor Troupe status for service to the community.
Every student in Southside’s Thespian Troupe 2620 earned academic distinction through the International Thespian Society. The troup has four Thespian Scholars (3.0 GPA or higher), 14 Vice-Presidential Scholars (3.5 GPA or higher) and 4 Presidential Scholars (4.0 GPA or higher).

School Board meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Service Center Auditorium, located in Building B of the Service Center Complex, 3205 Jenny Lind Road. The meetings are open to the public.

Board of Education
