Southside Students Recognized as DECA Emerging Leaders

Southside High School seniors Lauren Baschek, Holly Bissell, Kahlyn Covert, Keiyanna Fisher, Tram Nguyen, Natalie Phan, Jennifer Tipton and Mymy Tran are among 400 U.S. students and 25 Arkansas students recognized as 2017 DECA Emerging Leaders.

These students will receive their award at the International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, Calif. The designation recognizes DECA high school seniors studying marketing, finance, hospitality and management while being an academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, experienced leader through their participation in DECA.

To win this award, DECA member must participate in various activities such as being an officer, completing community service project and competing at a DECA conference (among other experiences) that fulfill different categories resulting in a well-rounded emerging leader. They also must have completed a marketing, business management, entrepreneurship, finance or hospitality and tourism class and have a 3.2 cumulative GPA for the academic portion of the award. The requirements for this award also include approval from the member’s advisor, counselor, principal and parents.

School Board meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Service Center Auditorium, located in Building B of the Service Center Complex, 3205 Jenny Lind Road. The meetings are open to the public.

Board of Education
