Sixth-grade students who serve as Safety Patrol Members were honored for their outstanding service with a cook-out and appreciation ceremony. The event, hosted by the Fort Smith Noon Lions Club, Fort Smith Police Department and the Fort Smith Public School District recognized students who worked as part of the Safety Patrol Team for the 2010-2011 school year.
“These students served all year through the heat of September and the cold of January and we appreciate this dedication in looking out for the safety of their peers,” said Dr. Michael Farrell, FSPS Coordinator of Student Services.
Each year, two students and a school are given special recognition for their service. Shateria Thompson from Pike Elementary was honored as “Best Safety Patrol Girl” and Kyle Sentell from Beard Elementary was named “Best Safety Patrol Boy.” Spradling Elementary was named “Best School” for its safety patrol program.
