Foundation Awards $40,000 in Grants

The Fort Smith Public Schools Foundation hosted its annual Awards Luncheon at Fianna Hills Country Club on May 13. More than $40,000 in mini-instructional, graduate, and Space Camp grants was awarded to teachers. Thirty-eight projects received mini-instructional grants to use for classroom projects and innovative lessons. Five teachers received graduate study grants to continue their education. Two teachers from Darby were also presented the Tom Cooley Award to attend U.S. Space Academy for Educators at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama this summer.

The Fort Smith Public Schools Foundation’s goal is to enhance the quality of education in the Fort Smith Public Schools by providing the money necessary for programs not otherwise funded by the District. Funds are raised through the work of a volunteer Board of Directors. Grants are awarded to a select number of educators after a careful review of their applications by the Foundation Board every spring.

School Board meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Service Center Auditorium, located in Building B of the Service Center Complex, 3205 Jenny Lind Road. The meetings are open to the public.
