District Raises More than $79,000 for United Way Campaign

It was another record-breaking year for the FSPS United Way Campaign. This year, the District's faculty and staff pledged $79,326 --an increase of 5% beyond the 2010 total. Fourteen schools and centers recorded 100% employee participation, while the overall District posted an 83% participation rate. Schools with 100% participation include: Adult Education Center, Barling Elementary, Beard Elementary, Belle Point Center, Bonneville Elementary, Cavanaugh Elementary, Chaffin Junior High, Fairview Elementary, Morrison Elementary, Parker Center, Spradling Elementary, Sunnymede Elementary, Trusty Elementary and Woods Elementary.

Cavanaugh Elementary was named the 2011 winner of the Helping Hand Award. Given for highest average employee contribution, this is the ninth year Cavanaugh has won the award. The 27 faculty and staff members' average gift was $155.19. The overall average individual contribution for the District was $44.31.

United Way of Fort Smith Area supports 34 community partner agencies. It focuses on programs that tackle issues related to education, income and health. United Way and many of its agencies partner with the District to provide services and supplies to children and their families. Every July, United Way coordinates the Stuff the Bus school supply drive that directly benefits children throughout the District. The organization also partners with Parents as Teachers to enroll preschool age children in its Dolly Parton's Imagination Library program.
