Fort Smith Public Schools, in conjunction with the Alma, Greenwood and Van Buren School Districts, will now provide students with the opportunity to take part in The River Valley College and Career Readiness Program (RVCCRP). The program is designed to support schools in the River Valley area as each guides students toward their college and career aspirations.Participants will receive ACT prep, college admissions information, and career planning tools.
RVCCRP's goal is to improve placement scores for high school students preparing to enter college and the workforce. Instruction will include English, Reading, Math, and Science ACT test prep, and college and career planning. Students will visit a local university campus. The program will also emphasize potential post-secondary options. Chad Cargill, a speaker who conducts workshops on the ACT exam and on character building, will also speak during the sessions. Students will also participate in planning sessions with a certified career development facilitator, in order to understand the steps to take in planning for college and career.
Students in grades 9-12 are eligible to participate. There will be four sessions held during the 2012-2013 school year. Students may participate in multiple sessions if they choose. The program is offered at no cost to students but each student will be responsible for paying ACT testing fees. In order to participate in the program, students must register for the corresponding National ACT test. Students can register for the prep program online.
