Four seniors from Southside High School have been named Presidential Scholar Candidates. Caroline Chen, Phillip Meeks, Meredith Pitsch and Matt White were among only 45 named as candidates in the state of Arkansas. The Presidential Scholars Program is one of the highest honors bestowed upon graduating high schools seniors.
One young man and woman from each state will be named national Presidential Scholars. Winners will attend a recognition ceremony in Washington, DC where they will be presented with a Presidential Scholars medallion. Students are selected on the basis of superior academic and artistic achievement, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement in community and school activities.
Southside High School had the second highest candidate representation in the state. The four students are currently working on their applications. Semifinalists will be named in April and Scholars will be announced in May.
