Good math skills are essential for all students as they plan for college and careers. Acquiring these skills requires a strong foundation at every level. So, to help students improve their understanding of math, the Fort Smith Public Schools will begin free after-school math tutoring at every elementary and junior high school.
Math, Go Figure! is designed to help students in Grades 3-8 to become more proficient in math. District teachers will provide small-group instruction for students who may be struggling with certain math concepts. The tutoring sessions will concentrate on each student's greatest needs, and work to strengthen each child's mathematical foundation.
The program begins September 24. 2012 and continues through April 5, 2013. Children may attend these after-school tutoring sessions up to four times a week at a school. The same tutoring program will also be offered at the Fort Smith Boys & Girls Club and Girls, Inc.
Those wishing to participate must complete the information on the program flyer (see below). Forms must be returned by Friday, September 14.
