Peters Awarded an OG&E Teacher Grant

Elizabeth Peters, a teacher at Belle Point Alternative Center, was recently awarded a grant by OG&E Energy Corporation for her project "The Sunflower: Teacher Forgiveness." Dana Craig, OG&E, presented Peters with a $600 check for her project which is part of the company's Teacher Grant Program.

Based on Simon Wisenthal's book, The Sunflower: On the Possibilities and Limits of Forgiveness, Peter's project teaches at-risk students about tolerance, forgiveness and the power of silence while sharpening their writing and critical thinking skills. The book is based on a true story about a concentration camp prisoner who is asked to forgive the horrific actions of a dying Nazi soldier.

OG&E Energy has funded more than 300 projects for teachers since launching its Teacher Grant Program in 2003. The program is available to public school teacher from pre-kindergarten through grade 12. Applications for project grant up to $1.,000 are typically available at the beginning of a calendar year for funding the next school year.

School Board meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Service Center Auditorium, located in Building B of the Service Center Complex, 3205 Jenny Lind Road. The meetings are open to the public.
