FSPS Band Earn 'Superior' Scores at Marching Contest

Bands from Chaffin, Darby, Kimmons, Ramsey, Northside and Southside proudly represented FSPS in the ASBOA (Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association) Region VIII Marching Contest on October 25. Twenty-one schools from throughout the region participated in this year's contest, hosted at Northside's Mayo-Thompson Stadium.

All six Fort Smith Public Schools competing in the contest received perfect scores. Chaffin, Darby, Kimmons, Ramsey, Northside and Southside were awarded straight ones, or superior ratings, from each of the judges.

Judges scored each of the bands on a scale from one to four, with one being superior. Although schools do not technically compete against one another, they are given a performance ranking by each of the judges. Scoring is based on playing (sound), marching and general performance appearance.

At the contest, the audience was also treated to a special performance by Arkansas Tech University's "Band of Distinction."

Congratulations to Chaffin, Darby, Kimmons, Ramsey, Northside and Southside marching bands for their outstanding performances!

School Board meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Service Center Auditorium, located in Building B of the Service Center Complex, 3205 Jenny Lind Road. The meetings are open to the public.
