Southside Musicians earn acclaim at Arkansas choral festival

Southside choral musicians earned four of the eight Best in Class awards presented at the 2013 Arkansas State Choral Festival. Held at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, the annual festival is the only opportunity that choral musicians have to compete for statewide, first-place acclaim.

The four Southside Choirs; Mixed Chorus, Men’s Chorus, Female Chorus and the Johnny Rebs, earned Division I (Superior) ratings from each of the three judges at the event.

The Female and Male Choruses both had the second highest scores in their respective categories. The Johnny Rebs Ensemble received the Best in Class award for Medium Size Choirs, and Best in Class Overall for Medium Size Choirs, which includes all Mixed, Male and Female choirs. The Mixed Chorus received the Best in Class award for Large Choirs, and Best in Class Overall for Large Choirs. The Southside Mixed Chorus also received the highest total score of any choir in the four-day event.
