High students, Cara Shipley and Olivia Davis, were recently recognized as the
InvestWrite essay contest winners for the 2012-2013 competitions. Shipley won
the 2012 fall competition and Davis won the 2013 spring competition. Both
students researched many aspects of economics while learning the skills to
prepare for their own financial future. Shipley and Davis were under the
supervision of Greg Crawford, Economics teacher.
involves students monitoring, “daily global market activity and economic
factors that drive investments to determine the short and long-term growth
potential of industries, companies, asset classes and specific stocks, bonds
and mutual funds,” according to Melanie Mortimer, Executive Director of the
SIFMA Foundation. “They are then asked to make sophisticated, thoughtful
recommendations that reflect what is expected of college and career-ready
students.” The InvestWrite essay competition is a component of the Stock Market
Game that is provided by Economics Arkansas. It occurs at the ten-week period
of investment and challenges students to analyze an investment scenario along
with writing an essay offering investment advice.
