Wes Carson, a senior at Southside High School, has been selected as the 2012-2013 Gatorade Arkansas Boys Soccer Player of the Year. The award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field. Carson is the first Gatorade Arkansas Boys Soccer Player of the Year to be chosen from Southside High School.
The Gatorade Player of the Year program annually recognizes one winner in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states that sanction high school football, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, baseball, softball, and boys and girls track and field, and awards one National Player of the Year in each sport. The selection process is administered by the Gatorade high school sports leadership team in partnership with USA TODAY High School Sports.
As the state winner, Carson is now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year award. The winner will be announced in May.
Carson, who was also named the 2012 Class 7A West Conference Offensive Player of the Year, concluded his prep soccer career with 77 goals. He has signed a National Letter of Intent to play soccer on an athletic scholarship at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway this fall.
