Southside Ensemble to Perform at the Trumpets International Guild

Southside High School’s Trumpet Ensemble will be featured at the Trumpets International Guild at the University of Arkansas on March 12. The group will perform Canzon Septimi Toni #2 by Giovanni Gabrieli, appearing prior to a recital given by Dr. John Aley of the University of Wisconsin.

Dr. Richard Rulli, Trumpet Professor for the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville invited the ensemble because of their reputation for talent as well as their record-breaking number of section members qualifying for positions in the 2011 All-State Bands. This year, Southside trumpet players earned the first six chairs in the All-State Band and the first three chairs in the All-State Jazz Band. A total of 10 trumpet players were named to the All-State Bands.

The ensemble includes: Will Davis, Stephen Thorn, Joe Jarvis, Tyler Coats, Grant Harper, Phillip Cowan, Chris Maestri, Spencer Barker, Nick Chavis, Brett McReynolds, Reyna Rodriguez and Austin Ward. The group is directed by Josh Ray.
