FSPS Teachers Earn National Board Certification

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, NBPTS, has recognized the following Fort Smith Public School Teachers as achieving National Board Certification: Eden Buergler, Euper Lane; Jenny Craig, Northside; Maria Galvan, Ramsey; Cynthia Grizzle, Orr; Cordelia Heffner, Darby; Rebecca Macy, Chaffin; Kim Morgan, Spradling; Rachel Pendleton, Cavanaugh; Tammy Ray, Orr. Each successfully completed the requirements set forth by NBPTS. With the nine newly board certified teachers, Fort Smith Public Schools now has 105 educators who hold the prestigious designation.

"These teachers have shown dedication to learning and this certainly transfers to our students," said Samantha Hall, Supervisor of Professional Development. National Board Certification is the highest credential available in the teaching profession and involves a lengthy application process for candidates. Educators become certified in specific subjects and grade-levels based on standards developed by master teachers and education experts. The process generally takes one to three years to complete.

School Board meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Service Center Auditorium, located in Building B of the Service Center Complex, 3205 Jenny Lind Road. The meetings are open to the public.
