Spradling Wins First Place in Food Drive Campaign

Spradling Elementary School recently placed first in the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance’s eighth annual Spirit of Arkansas food drive that ran in December. The staff and students raised an amazing amount -- 15,083 pounds of food -- for the drive. Patty Barker with the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance in Little Rock presented Spradling with the Spirit of Community Award plaque along with a $1,500 check during the award presentation on Thursday, January 23.

The Spirit of Giving Campaign is an annual statewide partnership to collect food and donations to support local hunger relief organizations and the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance. The campaign ran from December 2 to December 13. Each participating organization was paired with a hunger-relief agency from their community. All the hunger-relief agencies then collected the donated food from the participants. Sponsors of the campaign include KATV Channel 7, US Bank, Alice 107.7, B98.5 and Stallion Transportation Group.

The students at Spradling certainly exceeded the goals set for them by their principal, Robyn Dawson. For the duration of the food drive, the students surpassed their original goal by donating over 2,000 cans of food. The message of helping those in need has definitely gotten through to the children, making their achievement more innovative and unique.

Congratulations to Spradling Elementary School!
