NHS Goes to State Bar Association Mock Trial Tournament

Northside High School's Debate Team participated in the Arkansas Bar Association Mock Trial Tournament. The team's 16 members were split into two teams for the competition and represented Northside well by placing 14th and 21st.

The Mock Trial Program provides a great academic opportunity for students in many areas; especially those of fundamental knowledge, sound judgement, and critical thinking. The Arkansas Mock Trial Tournament consisted of the two teams playing the prosecution/defense attorneys and the witnesses during three simulated civil trials. Throughout the tournament, the teams participated in front of over 100 Federal Judges and District Attorneys throughout Arkansas.

Northside's Debate Team includes:

Preston ChaseRoxana CordovaLindee Cozort, JJ DunbarRoy Gene IV, Shelby HunterAlely Lopez, Yaquline Martinez, Erin McLainCaterine Ortiz, Jennifer Recinos, Johnny RobinsonMegan ShippKaila Slaughter, Yesenia Tello, Rachael Williams. The advisors were Roy Gene III from Gene, Gene and Gene Law Firm and William Buckley from McCutchen and Sexton Law Firm. The Attorney Coach was Jason Vaughn from Vaughn Law Firm. The debate team is headed by Northside teacher Gary Hartwig.

School Board meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Service Center Auditorium, located in Building B of the Service Center Complex, 3205 Jenny Lind Road. The meetings are open to the public.
