FSPS Students Place at SkillsUSA Competition

The Northside and Southside High School’s SkillsUSA teams recently competed in the SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills State Championships in Hot Springs, AR. Nine FSPS students placed in their respective categories.

Northside:

Crystal Porter - Gold in Health Knowledge Bowl

Ignacio Quezada - Gold in Electronics Technology

Eliseo Diaz - Silver in Basic Health Care Skills

Mario Parga - Silver in Carpentry     


Southside:

Elizabeth Crowley - Gold in Health Knowledge Bowl (team of 4)

Micah Galvan - Gold in Health Knowledge Bowl

Elaine Pigeon - Gold in Early Childhood Education

Victoria Davenport - Silver in Health Knowledge Bowl (team of 4)

Abigail Morrow - Silver in Health Knowledge Bowl

Those students winning Gold in their respective categories are first place in Arkansas. They will also go on to compete at the national level in Kansas City this summer. All Gold winners were also given a $4,000 college scholarship.

SkillsUSA Advisor and WATC Program Coordinator Savannah Knight said, "I am so proud of our students from the Fort Smith high schools. Their display of enthusiasm and dedication while preparing for the state competition was exemplary and their hard work paid off."

School Board meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Service Center Auditorium, located in Building B of the Service Center Complex, 3205 Jenny Lind Road. The meetings are open to the public.
