Full House for Partners in Education Awards Luncheon

More than 400 representatives from partner businesses, organizations, and educators celebrated another successful year at the Partners in Education Awards Luncheon. PIE Advisory Board Chairman Greg Davis welcomed guests and recognized luncheon sponsors and new Partners in Education.   

Dr. Benny Gooden, Fort Smith Public Schools Superintendent, welcomed featured keynote speaker Scott Smith, Chief Technology Officer for the Mooresville, NC, Graded School District, who discussed the digital conversions taking place at Morrison Elementary, Sunnymede Elementary, and Ramsey Junior High.

Following Smith’s presentation, Dr. Gooden and incoming Chairman Tim Hearn presented annual and special awards. The Norma Shaffer Partnership of the Year Award for Elementary Schools was presented to Cook Elementary School with United Federal Credit Union. The Norma Shaffer Partnership of the Year Award for Secondary Schools was presented to Chaffin Junior High School with Brown, Hiller, Clark & Associates.   

The Bud Jackson Teamwork Awards are presented to teams of school partners who establish remarkable synergy in their efforts to serve the students. This year, two teams were recognized: Beard Elementary School with Partners Baldor, Bowling World, Eureka Pizza, Harps, HealthSouth, Centennial Bank, Noon Exchange Club, and the Beard PTA; and Tilles Elementary School with Partners Arvest Bank, Eureka Pizza, Southside Rotary Club, and Zero Mountain, Inc.

Rham Cunningham, The Richland Group, won the Cathy Williams Partner of the Year Award for his consistent positive involvement with the students and staff of Spradling Elementary.   

Cavanaugh Elementary School, their partners, and community earned special recognition for the Cavanaugh Elementary School Park and Outdoor Classroom. This long-term and ongoing collaboration sets the standard for the Chairman’s See Think Build Award. Recipients of the See Think Build Award are listed below:
