Welcome! You are a very influential factor in the student-teacher-parent-community equation. As parents, you are your child’s first and most important teacher. As community members, your interest and support reinforces the belief that an education—for each child—is critical to the future of our community, state and nation.
As a model to the democracy public education supports, seven publicly elected volunteers serve as the Fort Smith Public Schools Board of Education. They are elected to three-year terms. Four are elected as representative of specific zones. Three hold at-large positions.
The Fort Smith Public School District is fortunate to have strong relationships with parents through schools and Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs), and with the business community through the Chamber of Commerce, the Manufacturers Executives Association (MEA), the Partners In Education (PIE) and the Fort Smith Public Schools Foundation (FSPSF) among many others. Organizations like the Children’s Service League illustrate the compassionate nature of our community. Many parent and community services are available through programs at the Parker Center.
These pages are provided to give you detailed information about our schools and several organizations with missions that directly impact children who attend Fort Smith Public Schools.
We have a request of you. Attendance is a primary indicator of school success or failure. It is a variable that is completely beyond the control of the education community. Please insist that your children be at school on time, and emphasize to your friends, neighbors and colleagues the importance of regular school attendance.
