Junior High School Career Readiness Actvities

8th grade

  • Career Development class – a semester course that introduces the world of work to the students, encourages them to focus on their strengths and interests, and introduces them to programs of study within Fort Smith Schools.
  • Every 8th grade student visits UAFS during Career Development class. This visit focuses on college opportunities, expectations, and the WATC program.
  • Students create individual career plans for their four year high school experience based on their personal career goals.
  • Students will begin working in the Arkansas Works Accounts. http://www.arkansasworks.kuder.com/students.htm

 

9th grade

  • Students will revisit and revise their career plans with the CDF.
  • Individual career counseling sessions about transitioning to high school if needed. 
  • Students will participate in the 9th grade Career Expo. This career event will allow students to experience career opportunities within various career clusters through community volunteers. The career expo highlights the Fort Smith job market as well in order to educate students about local opportunities.
  • Various industry tours when applicable and available.

Board of Education

School Board meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Service Center Auditorium, located in Building B of the Service Center Complex, 3205 Jenny Lind Road. The meetings are open to the public.
