Instructional Services - Assessment

Felicia R. Smith - Supervisor
Shearen Corbin - Secretary
Testing is one of the responsibilities of the Instructional Services’ office. This office masters testing security and the distribution of tests to all schools. The district has multiple assessments (see calendar). The test results are disaggregated and analyzed to guide classroom instruction. These assessments are given to students based on the mandates of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act and the Arkansas Department of Education.

The FSPS Closing the Achievement Gap Task Force researches best-practices to help with closing the achievement gaps between subgroups at all grade levels in the district. The task force consists of parents, teachers, administrators, a board member, and a staff member from the University of Arkansas Fort Smith.
The elementary art, music and physical education specialty departments are another entity of Instructional Services. The departments’ theme this year is “Begin with the End in Mind”, which determines the outcome of instruction, learning, and behavior. Because students are interested in technology, technology has been incorporated into each of the departments.
