Austin Recognized as "Teacher on the Rise"

Maureen Austin, a fourth grade teacher at Bonneville Elementary School, was selected by the Mrs. Baird's Baking Company as a January "Teacher on the Rise." She was named the elementary recipient after being nominated by her student Kaitylyn Woodham.

On January 25, Shane Sumrow of Mrs. Baird's surprised Austin and her class with the announcement. In nominating her teacher, Woodham wrote that Austin was the "best teacher ever, because if we get tired, we get to dance and walk around." She added that Mrs. Austin looks over all of her students work and if they consistently miss something, she is willing to reteach it to help her students learn better.

Austin was awarded a $200 Walmart gift card and a $150 prize for window tinting from KISR. She was also presented with a basket of Mrs. Bair'ds products and baked goods. Woodham received a $50 Walmart gift card for her submission. Austin will be entered into a drawing for the grand prize, valued at $5000, to be awarded in June.
