Bonneville Celebrates "Read Across America"

Bonneville Elementary celebrated "Read Across America" with a week full of activities for students. On Wednesday, Kindergartners received a surprise visit from the "Cookie Man" from The Great American Cookie Company. The store donated a Horton-themed cookie cake in honor of the class reading the Dr. Seuss classic, Horton Hatches the Egg

Several local officials and personalities visited the school and read to classes throughout the building, as well. Readers included Fort Smith Police Chief Kevin Lindsey, Sebastian County Sheriff Bill Hollenbeck and KFSM TV-5 anchor, Daren Bobb. Volunteers from Bonneville Partners in Education and from throughout the community also donated their time to read to students during the day.

The National Education Association's "Read Across America" campaign is the nation's largest reading event, occurring every year on or near Dr. Seuss' birthday, March 2.
