Circulation Procedures

The primary function of a library media center is to provide services to its patrons.  In order to facilitate this, the status of each item must be maintained through an efficient circulation system.  All check-out procedures are established on the basis of service to patrons.  Materials and equipment are circulated as needed.

Students

Books: Students must have a valid Darby Junior High School identification card.  A student without fines may check out two (2) books at one time.  The books, with the exception of certain reference books, may be checked out for a two (2) week period.  Students may check out books before school, after school, during lunch, or when sent to the library media center by a classroom teacher.  A fine of ten (10) cents per day will be charged for overdue books.  A book that is lost or damaged must be paid for by the student who checked it out.  Students may check out certain reference books for one (1) night.  A fine of fifty (50) cents will be charged for books not brought back the next day.

Computers: Students must have a valid Darby Junior High School identification card.  The student must check out the computer station before using a computer.  While using the computer, the student will be subject to the Network/Internet Acceptable Use Policy.  The computer must be checked in before the student leaves the library media center.

Teachers

Print Materials: Teachers may check out print materials at anytime during the school day.  These materials may be kept until needed by another teacher or a student.  Teachers may check out print materials without a number restriction.

Non-print Materials: Teachers may check out non-print materials during the school day.  These materials may be kept until needed by another teacher.

Parents/Community Patrons

Books: Parents and community patrons who have an identification number provided by the school office may check out print materials anytime that the library media center is open.  These materials may be checked out for a two (2) week period.  A fine of ten (10) cents per day will be charged for overdue books.  Certain reference books may be checked out for one (1) night.  A fine of fifty (50) cents will be charged for those books not brought back the next day.

Computers: Parents and community patrons who have an identification number provided by the school office may check out computers after the student day has ended.  The parent/community patron must check out the computer station before using a computer.  While using the computer, the parent/community patron will be subject to the Network/Internet Acceptable Use Policy.  The computer must be checked in before the parent/community patron leaves the library media center.
