December Student Success Story- Sharon Turner

Sharon Turner has spent the last decade of her life paying it forward.  In 2001 Sharon was paroled from prison on drug charges.  She became a residential client at Gateway House, a substance abuse treatment center for women.  After she completed her treatment program, she became an intake counselor there.  During this time she took two computer classes at the Adult Education Center.

In 2005 Sharon became a certified substance abuse counselor.  Then in 2007 she was promoted to the Residential Program Director at Gateway.  Today there are about thirty young ladies in the residential program.  Sharon works closely with the AEC and the Literacy Counsel to ensure the Gateway clients continue their educations if they do not have high school diplomas.  The clients are also exposed to parenting classes, career analysis programs, twelve step meetings, and programs from the Crisis Center for Women.

Sharon dedicates her life to helping young ladies become contributing members of society.  In fact, there are three recent graduates of drug court working at Gateway.  Sharon is an inspiration to all who come in contact with her.
