Goal:
An Education of Choice Success is defined in 13,000 ways in Fort
Smith Public Schools . . .
Among the more than 13,000 students who attend FSPS, secondary students
select from a variety of Advanced Placement (AP), traditional and career
courses, and activities. All are designed to provide enriching and challenging
experiences for every student. Pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and elementary-age
students participate in a fundamental curriculum that prepares each child
to move forward in the education process.

Goal:
Highly Trained Teachers Teachers are life-long learners . . .
This global and ever-changing society requires that each teacher possess
tools, skills, and strategies that have the greatest impact on student
learning. FSPS Professional Development in literacy, math and technology
emphasizes knowledge that is most effective in the classroom, and it is
designed to meet the diverse needs of each school and the children each
serves. Principals and district administrators support teachers with the
resources necessary to use new or improved strategies and skills.
Goal:
Student Achievement A comprehensive and progressing education
equals success. . .
Comprehensive and sustained student achievement is the purpose of the
Fort Smith Public Schools. This emphasis is highlighted by academic honors
earned by our students each year. Test scores demonstrate that many FSPS
students begin school with lower achievement levels than their Arkansas
schoolmates. These same tests also indicate improving achievement in following
grades. By the time FSPS students reach the sixth grade, their scores
exceed Arkansas scores in general. This academic success is supported
by the comparison of FSPS and Arkansas scores on the Iowa Test of Basic
Skills and by ACT (American College Test) and the College Board’s
SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) results.
Goal:
Safe Schools Safe environments develop from positive
relationships . . .
Prevention, intervention, and crisis response describe the focus areas
of the District’s safe schools initiatives. Counselors develop and
maintain strong relationships with students. Educators and students enjoy
positive interaction with the District’s safety officer and community
police officers. District and school safety committees address health
issues, and District and school crisis teams participate in ongoing crisis
management planning and training. These program elements allow students
and staff to share the responsibility as guardians of safety in their
schools. Students learn that a nurturing environment develops from the
positive relationships they share with each other. Contact Security Supervisor
Goal:
Parents and Community Their support defines the difference .
. .
Parent and community support defines the difference between a good school
district and a great school district. We are fortunate to have established
and productive relationships with a variety of parent and community organizations.
The influence of Fort Smith citizens translates to higher academic interest
resulting in greater academic achievement.
