Thomas Named January "Teacher on the Rise"

Zachary Thomas, a science teacher at Northside High School, was selected by the Mrs. Baird's Baking Company as a January "Teacher on the Rise." He was named the secondary level recipient after being nominated by his student Aaron Nedley.

On January 25, Shane Sumrow of Mrs. Baird's surprised Thomas and his class with the announcement. In nominating his teacher, Nedley wrote that Thomas was "not any ordinary teacher." He stated that Thomas "helps every single student with whatever he can" and that he goes "out of his way to find answers" for his students, as well.

Thomas was awarded a $200 Walmart gift card and a $150 prize for window tinting from KISR. He was also presented with a basket of Mrs. Bair'ds products and baked goods. Nedley received a $50 Walmart gift card for his submission. Thomas will be entered into a drawing for the grand prize, valued at $5000, to be awarded in June.
