Science

District Science Coordinator

The Science Coordinator will provide adequate time, resources, and support for K-12 science teachers to apply research-based instructional practices, including scientific and engineering practices, core ideas and cross-cutting concepts into the science curriculum.  Additionally, the coordinator will support the integration of high-yield instructional practices and Common Core State Standards for Math and English Language Arts.  Finally, the coordinator will provide assistance in the analysis of student data designed to drive classroom instruction toward increased student achievement.

Elementary Science

The elementary science efforts, initiatives and programs are focused on nurturing student growth in the area of science, while also ensuring that quality instruction is offered in the grade level specified in the Arkansas Department of Education Science Frameworks.  Elementary science efforts target inquiry-based science while emphasizing integration of technology, math and literacy skills.  The Science Instructional Facilitator supports teachers in identifying and implementing research-based, best practices through professional development, research, modeling, and collaborative work. 

Elementary Science Task Force

Mission Statement:  The Science
Task Force will set the direction and focus of science instruction and assessment for the development and empowerment of lifelong learners.  The task force is comprised of elementary teachers of all grade levels who meet to address science issues.  Each of the nineteen elementary campuses is represented on this committee.  This group of dedicated educators undertakes the scheduling of The Learning Institute science interim assessments for grades three, four, five and six the alignment of curriculum with these assessments, the discussion of issues that face our students and teachers, and the dissemination of program and strategy information to ensure the success of all our students.

 

Secondary Science

The science wiki is a designated site for teachers to access curriculum maps, pacing guides, teaching resources, science competitions and activities.
