Fast Facts Cook Elementary School, part of the Fort Smith Public School System, was established in 1976. It was named for Elmer Cook, a longtime Fort Smith educator. We are a Pre-K-6 school with a current enrollment of 633. This is approximately 81% Caucasian, 7% African American, 5% Hispanic, 4% Indian/Native American, and 3% Asian/Pacific Islander. We have been named an Arkansas School of Excellence by the Arkansas State Department of Education. Cook is an Arkansas A+ school. The A+ program is a fine arts intensive program integrated into all curriculum areas. Our faculty and staff strive to maintain high standards which will allow our students to achieve success when they move on to secondary and higher education and citizenship in the 21st century. Our mission is Creating Outstanding Opportunities for Kids. Our school colors are red and white and we are the Cook Crusaders. We currently have 25 classroom teachers, one Literacy Specialist, one Reading Recovery teacher, one full-time counselor and two part-time counselors, and two resource teachers. Specialty area teachers work with our students in Art, Library, Music and Physical Education on a weekly basis.
