Parker Center - Federal Programs
Title I
Title I, the largest of the Federal programs, serves approximately 5,806 students in Fort Smith. The program, which targets children with reading and math deficiencies, is active in 17 elementary schools, and three non-public schools.
Seventeen public elementary schools are Title I school-wide projects. These schools have enough children from low income homes to qualify for a whole-school program.
Selection of a school for Title I service is based on the number of children who receive either a free or reduced lunch. Once a school qualifies as school-wide, identified students from all grade levels are eligible for service.
Title I emphasizes the role parents play in their child’s education. A Title I Parent Center is located at the Parker Center. Parents who visit the center find teaching materials and ideas that they can use with their children at home.
