Parker Center - Social Studies

Elementary Social Studies
The elementary social studies efforts, initiatives, and programs are focused on nurturing student growth in the areas of social concepts along with reading and writing, while also ensuring that quality instruction is offered in the grade level skills specified in the Arkansas Department of Education Frameworks. Elementary social studies programs are based on the approach of integration by bringing reading and writing into the social studies curriculum. Integration in social studies focuses on project-based
learning and interaction among all students.

Elementary Social Studies Task Force
Mission Statement: The Social Studies Task Force will set the direction and focus of social studies instruction with the goal of integration with reading and writing.
This is a committee comprised of elementary teachers on all grade levels who meet to address social studies issues. Each of the nineteen elementary campuses is represented on this committee of teachers. This group of dedicated educators undertakes the responsibility of curriculum alignment, discusses issues that face our students and teachers, and focuses on the needs of social studies integration to aid in the growth of reading and writing skills for all students.
