Scholarship Announcements

 

September

 

The Guidance Office will receive information about many scholarships throughout the year.  Scholarship information is announced and then placed in the scholarship notebook in the Guidance Office so that you can periodically check out the scholarships that are available.

 

The guidance office has received information on the following scholarships.

 

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards—this scholarship is available for grades 10-12.  Applicants must describe a volunteer activity they have performed since September 2004.  Application deadline is October 31.

 

Coca Cola Scholars Foundation—Seniors who demonstrate leadership, commitment to community and academic achievement.  Applications are available on-line only at www.coca-colascholars.org.  Deadline is October 31

 

SAE Engineering Scholarships—For Seniors who are interested in engineering or a related science. Awards vary by institution.  Deadline December 1.

 

Horatio Alger Scholarship Program—Seniors who are interested in working toward a bachelors degree/  Applicants must have a minimum 2.0 gpa and have financial nee ($50,000 or less per family).  Applications are available on-line only at www.horatioalger.org/scholarships

 

AXA Achievement Scholarship—Seniors who demonstrate ambition, determination, respect for family and self, and have the ability to succeed in college.  Application deadline December 15.  On-line only  www.axa-achievement.com

 

                                                                                                   

October

 

Earl Collins Foundation – A $750 scholarship for one student in West Central Arkansas will be provided by the Earl Collins Foundation of the Missouri-Arkansas District of Kiwanis InternationalStudents must have at least a 23 on the ACT or have a 3.30 gpa.  Deadline for application is November 30

 

Arkansas Alumni Association – For students planning to attend the University of Arkansas Fayetteville. Applicants must have a 3.6 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and a 24 ACT.   Applications are due February 1.

 

Sam Walton Community Scholarship – This $1000 award will go to a graduating senior.  Interested students should logon to www.walmartfounation.org for more information and www.scholarshipadministrators.net to apply.  Applicants must use the access code (SWCS) to complete the application.  No paper applications are accepted.

Deadline for application is January 20.

 

Arkansas Governor’s Commission on People with Disabilities – Applications are graded on the basis of achievement, community involvement, goals, and the challenges each student faces due to his/her disability.  Deadline for application is February 27.

 

Johnson and Wales - For students planning to attend Johnson and Wales University who have been outstanding young community leaders.  Deadline for application is January 5.

 

Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation – This award is designed to assist students who have lost a parent to breast cancer.  In addition students must have an outstanding record of student achievement, community service, leadership, and show financial need.  Scholarship applications may be downloaded at www.komen.org/grants.

 

Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship – For seniors who have demonstrated leadership and outstanding scholarship.  Applications deadline January 13.

 

Holocaust Remembrance Project – A national essay contest for high school students designed to encourage and promote the study of the Holocaust.  Winners receive an all expense paid trip to Washington  D. C. and scholarships up to $10,000.  For more information and to submit your essay, go to www.holocaust.hklaw.com.  Deadline May 1

 

US Bank – Thirty $1000 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors.  This is simply a random drawing.  Students can sign up at usbank.com/studentbanking.

 

 

November

 

Thea Foundation offers scholarships to students in Performing and Visual Arts.  Interested students should apply online at www.theafoundation.org

 

The Truman D. Picard Scholarship Program is dedicated to the support of Native American students pursuing higher education in Natural Resources.  Application materials are due March 31.

 

All seniors should be sure to register on FASTWEB.com for scholarship opportunities.

 

January                                                             

 

The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship will be awarded to about 60 Arkansas seniors who plan to attend college in Arkansas.  Scholarship recipients will be selected based on outstanding academic achievement and potential, leadership ability, involvement in school and community activities, and goals.  Application deadline is Friday February 17

 

American Indian Center of Arkansas will award scholarships to documentable Native Americans from a federally recognized tribe.  Academic achievement, community service, school activities, and financial need will be considered.  Deadline is April 15.

 

The Arkansas Community Foundation is awarding scholarships to Arkansas students whose parents have died in service to their nation, state, or community.  Deadline May 1

 

The Best Buy Scholarship is available for students who have outstanding community service.  Apply online at www.bestbuy.com/scholarships.  Applications due February 15.

 

The USA today and America’s Milk Processors are offering the 9th annual Scholar Athlete Milk Mustached of the Year Awards.  The criteria include academic performance, athletic excellence, leadership, community service, and milk experience.  Apply online at www.whymilk.com.  Deadline March 3

 

The American Cancer Society is awarding college scholarships to young cancer survivors pursuing an undergraduate degree.  Deadline is February 1

 

The Arkansas Broadcasters Association Scholarship is available for students planning to attend ASU in Jonesboro.  Deadline is February 15

 

Seniors, this is a reminder that many University based scholarships are due February 1 All UAFS Scholarships including Arkansas Scholars and most University of Arkansas at Fayetteville scholarships are due the 1st.  Be sure to check deadlines at the colleges where you are applying.

 

 

March

 

 

Two $1000 scholarships will be awarded to a senior planning to attend UA Fort Smith this fall. Applicants should have at least a 2.75 and be active in the school and community. Application deadline is May 5.

 

The Grant T. White Foundation Scholarship is available for students who have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and at least a 19 on the ACT. Students should have a strong record of community service and school activities. Application deadline is April 14.

 

The Arkansas Post of the Society of American Military Engineers announces the availability of two college scholarships and two sponsorships to Construction Camps. For the scholarships Students must apply to a college that offers a 4-5 year architectural or engineering curriculum or to a college with a cooperative program to transfer credits. Students must write a 200 word essay. Applications must be postmarked by March 31.

Requirements to be considered for the construction camp include: must have completed the sophomore or junior year in high school, must be taking math and science courses that can lead to an engineering degree, must have expressed an intent to pursue a degree in architecture or engineering. Application deadline is March 24.

 

The Martin Luther King, Jr . Holiday Planning Committee will award two $1000 scholarships to graduating seniors from this area. Applicants must have a 2.5 gpa or above. Financial need is a major consideration. Application deadline is April 15.

 

The Arkansas Manufactured Housing Educational Foundation Scholarship is for seniors whose parents are full time employee of a member of the Arkansas manufactured housing industry or who are themselves a full or part-time employee of a member of the industry. Application deadline is March 31.

 

The Fort Smith Council PTA will award tow scholarship to graduating seniors who are considering a career in education. Application deadline is April 7.

 

KFC Colonel’s Scholar Program is dedicated to assisting students with financial need who plan on pursuing a four year college degree. Applicants must have a 2.75 gpa or higher. Application deadline is March 31.
