Fast Facts about Tilles Elementary School Tilles Elementary opened its doors for the first time for the 1982-83 school year. The school replaced DuVal School that was located at 1200 North 14th and was the second oldest (1888) school in town. The new school was named for the late Samuel Tilles, a prominent Fort Smith merchant and businessman who was born in Austria. We are a PreK-6 school with a current enrollment of 524. Our student population is approximately 31% Caucasian, 18% African American, 46% Hispanic, 4% Asian, and 1% Native American. We currently have 22 K-6 classroom teachers. We also provide qualified staff in the areas of ELA, GATE, Title VII, hearing impaired, literacy, Reading Recovery, special education resource, art, music, library media, physical education, speech, and counseling. We have 2 special education preschool classrooms and 1 regular preschool classroom. Tilles is a Title I school. Tilles is participating in America’s Choice school design. Tilles offers a breakfast and lunch summer program. Our school colors are blue and orange, and we are the Tilles Tigers.
