The information below was shared originally as part of the Ready for Learning Plan for the 2020-21 school year.
As students re-enter the classroom, either virtually or on-site, Fort Smith Public Schools remains committed to supporting students and providing access to services that will support them as they continue learning. Students may continue to schedule meetings with their teachers and counselors to address any Social Emotional Learning needs.
Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
Student Social Emotional Learning (SEL) needs will be met by using the following:
- Classroom counseling
- A focus on student well-being
- Informal check-ins with individual students
- SEL professional development for teachers
Student Skills Assessment
All students including virtual students will participate in Fort Smith Public Schools’ assessment system so student growth can be closely monitored. Some of these tests will occur at a student’s school; others may be administered virtually.
For Special Education students with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or students who have a 504 Accommodation Plan, Fort Smith Public Schools will follow guidelines and IEPs as they are written whether the student is in a blended or virtual learning environment. FSPS students will have access to the full range of services provided by each school.
For students with a weakened immune system or health concerns, Fort Smith Public Schools is providing different pathways to learning for families to determine which option is best for their student. We encourage families to review each option carefully when making decisions for your student.
