School Board

Guiding the Fort Smith School District

The Fort Smith Public School District is governed by a dedicated seven-member Board of Education. This board plays a crucial role in setting the district's strategic direction, ensuring effective administration, establishing policies, and representing the educational interests of the community. Five members are elected by zone, while two hold at-large positions, allowing them to represent the district as a whole.

FSPS board members are expected to uphold high ethical standards as outlined in the Arkansas School Board Code of Ethics. They must make decisions in the best interests of students, parents, staff, and the broader community. Adherence to legal requirements, including the avoidance of nepotism and conflicts of interest, is mandatory. Additionally, board members are required to file financial disclosure forms to maintain transparency and accountability.

Board Meetings

School Board meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 5:30 pm in the Service Center Auditorium, Building B, at 3205 Jenny Lind Road, unless otherwise noted. These meetings are open to the public, and we encourage parents, grandparents, care providers of FSPS students, and residents of Fort Smith and Barling to attend and engage with the governance of our School District. To help you stay informed and involved, you can easily access the full schedule of upcoming School Board meetings.

Meeting agendas are posted the Thursday before each meeting. If you wish to address the Board, please complete and submit the Request to Speak form before the meeting begins. Paper copies of this form are available prior to each meeting.

In addition to the information available on this site, the District maintains a historical archive of Board of Education records dating back to the late 19th century. To review these documents, please contact the Superintendent's Office to schedule an appointment.
