FSPS Board of Education Announces Mr. Martin Mahan as Superintendent
After extensive interviews last week with three finalists, The FSPS Board of Education met during a special called meeting on April 8, and they selected Martin Mahan as the next Superintendent at Fort Smith Public Schools (FSPS) pending contract negotiation.
“After an extensive search yielding 20 applicants from 13 states, the board decided the best person for the job was already here. Mr. Mahan has devoted his career to this district, first as a substitute teacher and rising all the way to deputy superintendent. He knows this district better than anyone, and presented a very impressive plan to the board for taking us to new heights. I am thankful for my fellow board members, who thoughtfully engaged each of the finalists in interviews lasting over three hours each night for three consecutive nights. I'm equally grateful for the finalists who thoroughly prepared for this position. All three would make excellent superintendents for our district. Ultimately, though, Mr. Mahan was the right choice to lead the district forward, and we are very excited to get started with a familiar face as our next superintendent,” FSPS Board of President Dalton Person said.
Mahan previously served as Deputy Superintendent of FSPS, bringing a wealth of leadership experience and a deep commitment to academic success. The FSPS Board of Education is confident in Mahan's ability to provide stability and lead the district into a promising future. The Board sincerely appreciates FSPS employees and the Fort Smith community's input and continued support throughout this critical process.
