FSPS Staff Earn Record Merit Pay Recognition
Fort Smith Public Schools (FSPS) is proud to announce a record number of educators qualified for merit pay through the Arkansas Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
During the 2025-2026 school year, 112 FSPS staff qualified for the state’s merit pay program, earning a combined $350,000 in performance-based compensation.
This year’s total represents an increase of 22 qualifying staff members compared to the previous year and marks the highest number of FSPS employees to qualify for merit pay since the program’s inception.
“We are incredibly proud of our educators for earning this recognition. This record number of qualifying staff members reflects the dedication, hard work, and commitment our educators demonstrate every day to ensure the success of our district,” said Martin Mahan, FSPS Superintendent.
The Arkansas Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's merit pay program recognizes educators who meet specific performance criteria established by the state. The program is designed to reward excellence in teaching and student achievement while supporting continued growth and innovation in Arkansas classrooms.
