Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council Selects Service Project

The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council met on February 11 to finalize their annual community service project. After brainstorming ideas at a previous meeting, students narrowed their options down to four: hosting an event at the Boys & Girls Club, organizing a volunteer fair for middle and high school students, holding a charity basketball tournament, and volunteering at a senior center.

Students were split into groups to advocate for their assigned project. They worked together to develop and deliver three-minute elevator pitches. Following the presentations, the Advisory Council voted, selecting a Field Day at the Boys & Girls Club as their service initiative.

The event will feature a variety of activities, including athletic games and arts & crafts, ensuring an inclusive experience for all children. Attendance is free, and participants will receive a complimentary hot dog and drink. Proceeds from additional concession stand sales will benefit United Way, further supporting local community initiatives.

“This project allows students to give back in a meaningful way while engaging with the community in a positive environment,” said Dr. Jones, Director of Secondary Education.
