Keeping You Informed
The Communications Department at Fort Smith Public Schools provides clear, timely, and engaging information across multiple channels. From media inquiries and news releases to digital updates and notifications, we ensure our families and community are well-informed.
Media Relations
As the main contact for media inquiries, our Communications Department manages public relations for the district. Our team:
- Develops and shares press releases about key events and accomplishments
- Coordinates media interviews and responds to inquiries
- Manages all public records requests for the district
Please contact the Communications Department before reaching out to FSPS staff members for interviews or comments.
Digital Communications
Website
The Fort Smith Public Schools website, our primary communication hub, hosts important news, updates, and resources for the community. It’s where we share immediate, newsworthy information, which is then often distributed across other platforms.
District News
Our team covers a range of stories, including:
- Student achievements at state, national, or international levels
- Programs that align with our mission, values, and goals
- Community partnerships and volunteer efforts
- Unique campus traditions

Social Media
Follow us on social media for timely updates and engaging stories. Each platform serves a unique purpose in our communication:
- Facebook: Our primary platform. Major announcements and community news, often linking to detailed website updates.
- Instagram: Visual highlights of achievements, events, and activities.
- Vimeo: Streaming and archiving board meetings and other district videos.
- X (formerly Twitter): Only used for quick, time-sensitive updates and alerts.
- LinkedIn: Sharing professional updates.
Mass Notification System
Our mass notification system helps us to keep families informed. Please make sure your contact information is current with your school. Here is how each tool is used:
- Email: Used for general updates, announcements, and event reminders. Emails typically cover non-urgent information but may include important dates or time-frames. The district may also use email to inform families about specific incidents at their child's school.
- Text: Reserved for urgent or emergency notifications, such as inclement weather updates or crisis instructions.
- Automated Calls: Used occasionally for timely updates that require attention.
