Arkansas Scholars
Transforming Education Through Dedication and Recognition
Arkansas Scholars is an initiative proudly sponsored by the Fort Smith Chamber of Commerce and the Fort Smith Public School District. Our program champions the value of education by encouraging eighth-graders to commit to essential academic goals. Chamber members issue a challenge that fosters academic diligence and personal responsibility, setting students on a path to success from the very start of their high school journey.
Through engaging classroom presentations held each spring, eighth-graders are motivated to:
- Stay in school
- Take the SMART Core Courses
- Maintain a minimum grade of C
- Achieve excellent attendance, missing no more than nine days annually
Celebrating Achievement and Dedication
The Chamber Education Committee annually rewards and recognizes students who uphold these standards. Those who persist in meeting these criteria through their senior year receive special accolades at a prestigious Chamber of Commerce event, including the distinguished Arkansas Scholar Seal on their transcripts and diplomas.
Hire Me First!
Recognizing the dedication and discipline instilled in Arkansas Scholars, Fort Smith Chamber of Commerce and Fort Smith Public Schools present wallet-sized "Hire Me First" cards to 11th-grade Scholars. These cards promote priority consideration for summer employment opportunities among Chamber members. Employers are encouraged to leverage the reliability and work ethic of Arkansas Scholars, equipped with strong attendance records and academic achievements.
