Wellness and Nutrition for Academic Success
Nourishing Minds, Building Futures
The connection between nutrition and learning is well established. Healthy eating patterns are crucial for students to reach their full academic potential, achieve comprehensive physical and mental growth, and maintain lifelong health and well-being. Good nutrition is linked to a lower risk of premature mortality and the development of chronic diseases in adulthood. Schools play a vital role in helping students develop and sustain healthy eating habits. Well-designed and effectively implemented school nutrition programs positively influence students' eating behaviors.
All students should have the knowledge and skills to make nutritious and enjoyable food choices for life. Additionally, staff members are encouraged to model healthy eating and physical activity as valuable life practices. The Fort Smith Public School District actively promotes these healthy eating habits and physical activities.
Wellness Committee
The Wellness Committee welcomes those interested in the health and physical well-being of the FSPS students to volunteer for the Wellness Committee. The committee meets four times during the school year to discuss the district goals and encourage schools to make healthy changes in the everyday programs.
