Each member of our FSPS Police Department team plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for our students and staff. Our officers and staff are highly trained and experienced, and all come from diverse backgrounds. Two of our officers are Spanish-speaking, and we are always striving to add to our diversity. We believe in building strong relationships with students, staff, and parents, fostering a sense of trust and collaboration. From law enforcement expertise to social work, our team's diverse skill set is tailored to meet the unique needs of our district’s schools.
Meet the Chief
Chief Eric Huber, Leader of the FSPS Police Department
Chief Eric Huber has over 31 years of law enforcement experience. His career career reflects a path in law enforcement marked by dedication and leadership. Since joining the Fort Smith Public Schools Police Department in 2004, he has been instrumental in developing safety programs and enhancing security measures throughout the district.
Chief Huber’s job extends beyond the traditional responsibilities of ensuring the well-being of students and staff. His emphasis on building relationships strengthens the department's effectiveness and builds community.
His passion for his work is evident in his professional development. Currently enrolled at Columbia Southern University, he is actively working towards obtaining his degree in Criminal Justice Administration to supplement the education he received at Westark Community College and the University of Arkansas Fort Smith. His commitment to education and training is reflected in a myriad of certifications, including Certified Law Enforcement Instructor, Certified Radar Instructor, Certified SRO Trauma Medic, Certified IED Awareness, Bomb Threat & Search Procedures, Certified Child Abduction Response Team (CART), Certified Advanced A.L.I.C.E. Instructor, and Certified Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) and Instructor.
Lieutenant Joe Love
Lieutenant Joe Love has served with the Fort Smith Public Schools Police Department for six years and was promoted to lieutenant in 2024. He brings over 15 years of law enforcement experience, with 14 of those years dedicated to serving as a school resource officer. In his role, he plays a vital part in ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff within the Fort Smith Public Schools community. Joe is deeply committed to fostering a secure and supportive learning environment, dedicating his career to both law enforcement and school safety.
What drives Lieutenant Love in his profession is his passion for building lasting relationships with students and staff members. He takes great pride in witnessing students grow and succeed as they transition into adulthood. Many of the friendships he forms with students extend well beyond their school years, reflecting his commitment to creating a positive and nurturing atmosphere.
