Students Build Motors at Nuts, Bolts, and Thingamajigs
Nuts, Bolts, and Thingamajigs, one summer enrichment opportunity offered by FSPS, was made possible through a three-year grant from the company Nuts, Bolts, and Thingamajigs. The goal of the camp, as well as the company, is to introduce the students to the high demand and advanced technical fields in manufacturing and to provide an interactive, hands-on learning experience such as 3D printing, 3D pens, and building robots. Students were even able to test their skills with advanced robots at UAFS.
The camp included guest speakers and engineers from Gerber and Gerdau. The students visited OK Foods and the UAFS College of Applied Sciences where they learned about the options they have during high school through the UAFS Western Arkansas Technical Center (WATC) program and the options they have after high school. The students also visited ABB where each student made their own electric motor, which attendee and seventh grader Carissa Vaughan said was her favorite thing they did that week!
