Fort Smith Public Schools announces the resignation of Southside High School football Coach Jeff Willams. During his 15-year tenure at Southside High School, Coach Williams achieved a state championship (‘06), a 7A West conference championship (‘14), back-to-back state runner up titles (‘08 and ‘09), semi-finals (‘10, ‘11, ‘12, ‘14 and ‘15) and quarterfinals (‘18). He will be relocating to Northwest Arkansas to pursue new opportunities. We wish you the best, Coach Williams. You will be missed at Fort Smith Public Schools.
“Jeff Williams is an amazing person and a fantastic coach. He will be greatly missed at Southside High School,” said Dr. Lisa Miller, Southside High School Principal.
“It is a bittersweet moment for Southside High School and for the community of Fort Smith. On one hand, I am saddened about losing a great coach, teacher and leader of Southside High School. On the other hand, I am excited for Coach Williams and his new opportunities and wish him nothing but the best. I am equally excited about beginning the process of searching for a new leader for our football program. Coach Williams has been a part of an outstanding history that is Southside football. We will demand that those same expectations are not only met but exceeded by our next head football coach at Southside High School. Go Mavericks!” said Michael Beaumont, Director of Athletics & Student Activities, Fort Smith Public Schools
Statement from Coach Jeff Williams
Dear players, coaches, and parents,
After fifteen years as head coach of the Southside High School Football team and much thought, I have decided to resign my position as the head coach. My decision to resign did not come easily. Honestly, this one of the hardest days of my life and one of the hardest decisions I have had to make as a coach. While I have enjoyed my years at Southside, I have received an opportunity that would better fit my family and my professional goals. My wife and I feel the timing is right to make that change.
I want to express my appreciation for the fifteen years as your head coach. I feel so fortunate and grateful to have worked with so many supportive parents, teachers, and administrators throughout these years. Additionally, I am blessed to have worked with so many outstanding players and dedicated and loyal coaches. I want to thank you for all the time and work you have given to the program. Please know I will miss each relationship.
Thank you to the Fort Smith School District for allowing me to coach for so many years. I want to wish the program, the school district, and the community much success and luck under new leadership. I will continue to follow the team each season.
Thank you again for all the memories I will take with me and Go Southside!
Coach Jeff Williams
